DPF Compatible Motor Oils: Why It Matters?

Using the wrong oil in modern diesel vehicles with diesel particulate filters (DPF) can lead to repairs costing thousands. Here's what you need to know.

What Is a DPF?

A DPF is a filter in the exhaust system of diesel engines that captures harmful soot particles. It's present in all diesel vehicles meeting Euro 5 and above emission standards.

Why Is Special Oil Needed?

Regular motor oils partially burn in the combustion chamber and form ash. This ash accumulates in the DPF filter and eventually causes clogging. DPF-compatible oils: - Contain low ash (Low SAPS) - Have low sulfur content - Contain low phosphorus - This extends the DPF filter's lifespan

GMX Power DPF Compatible Oils

GMX VR7 5W-30 DPF is specifically developed for vehicles with DPF: - API SN / CF, ACEA C3 approved (current ACEA 2021/2022 revision) - BMW Longlife-04, Porsche C30 approved - Suitable for new generation gasoline and diesel engines - Fully compatible with catalytic converters (CATs) - Low ash additives protect the exhaust system - Provides long drain intervals

ACEA C Classification

DPF-compatible oils are classified in the ACEA C category: - ACEA C1: Lowest SAPS, fuel economy focused - ACEA C2: Low SAPS, balanced performance - ACEA C3: Medium SAPS, high performance protection - ACEA C4: Low SAPS, Renault and other French vehicles - ACEA C5: Low SAPS + low viscosity, fuel economy focused. Required for Renault RN17, some Ford and Mazda vehicles. - ACEA C6 (2022): Newest category, ultra-low SAPS for maximum fuel savings and DPF protection

Renault RN17 Warning

Renault RN17 and RN17 FE standards are not interchangeable. RN17 FE is not backward compatible with RN0700, RN0710, RN0720, RN17, or RN17 RSA. Using the wrong Renault oil standard is one of the most common service mistakes.

DPF Maintenance Tips

  1. Always use DPF-compatible oil: — Standard oil will clog the DPF
  2. Avoid short distance driving: — Engine must reach full temperature for DPF regeneration
  3. Don't delay oil changes: — Dirty oil produces more ash
  4. Don't ignore warning lights: — If DPF warning is on, take immediate action

Extend your DPF's life and avoid expensive repairs by using the right oil.
